Invite a friend or two, or three and it's bathtub party time. It doesn't matter if you are cat or a duck or ' friendly folks' - the more the merrier. Who is to say how comfortable sharing a tub is, but in these postcards, it looks like everyone is having a good time, except for maybe the one lady who was hoping for a private bath!

1. Friends. You know them, Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Chandler, Joey, and Monica. Here we have a fun promotional shot in two clawfoot bathtubs. Chandler holds a duck while Rachel is holding up the shower nozzle like a telephone. Ross & Joey are poised like they are at sea. Printed by the London Postcard Company in England in 1999. code WB 2758. Never sent.

2. Ducklings' Bathtime. A sweet Molly Brett Illustration of baby ducks on bath night. Mamma duck helps dry them off. Two fight over a towel. And in the background one duck brings more hot water while another has a candle and hot water bottle. Not sure if this illustration was part of a book. Printed by the Medici Society in London. PC 2364. Contemporary postcard. Unsent.

3. Die Verzauberte Badewanne/ The Enchanted Bathtub. Photograph of an old outdoor tub covered in cats taken by Albrecht Schnabel.   Cats are auspicious and often found in stories of witches or spells, which may explain the name of this photograph. Printed by Art Unlimited Amsterdam in the 1990s. Unsent.

4. Wish You Were Here. Garfield, Odie and friends playing in the tub. Oversized postcard part of a Garfield Postcard book printed in 1980s or 90s. Illustration by Jim Davis printed for Ballatine   Books, New York. Unsent.

5. Folks are Real Friendly Here. Comic Illustration of two men and two women 'getting friendly; in the same bathtub. Text says: Hello from ARKANSAS where it's great to live and Vacation.  The museum collection now has quite a few of these 'Friendly Folks' postcards There are at least 5 different illustrated varieties as well as different US States represented. Published by Laff Gram in Texas. Modern reproduction of a 1950s - 60s illustration. Unsent.

  6. Private Bath. A blond unclothed lady on the far side of the tub makes a call on an old fashioned telephone, "I thought this room had a private bath."   While four creepy men on the other side of the tub stare at her. Great comic card form the 1940s era of linen postcards.  The tub must be so huge to fit all these people. Also nice little scene of water and a boat outside the window. No publishing company. labeled C-23 only. Unsent.

7. McBastard Crossing the Willamette. Part of the 2003 International bathtub postcard exhibit in Portland.  Local zine librarian, and comic artist Clutch McBastard illustrated this scene showing local zinesters crossing Portland's main river in a giant bathtub.   The back of the card reads. "It was brisk on Christmas Morning 2003 as we prepared for battle with the unexpecting British troops on the other side of the Willamette River. As we boarded the floating bathtub that would take us across the icy water, we knew we were sailing towards destiny."
