Untitled. A 1920's style lady standing on a rug next to a bathtub, she looks back at the viewer and smiles. Shannon mentioned that her inspiration for this piece, are the old peek-a-boo french style postcards. The plane of the picture is unusal, The room looks like it is receding but the wallpapered wall is straight across. The stamp gives this piece a mail-art quality.

Pencil, acrylic, and Linoleum block on paper. 2004. 5 x 7 in. $15

My Electric Girl (and her tragic end...).Inspired by old sheet music called "My Electric Girl," Shannon created this intriguing piece. She said to me, "How can the Electric Girl take a bath?" That's a good question! I espeially love the skull bubbles.

I see Shannon Buck in and around art events in Portland all the time, and have admired her small prints and illustrations. Shannon is just finishing up college, and I hope she continues to make as much art possible when she's out on her own. Last month Shannon had a solo show at Reading Frenzy with a collection of monoprints on discarded "book boards" that used to hold the places of books at the library. Shannon also has a postcard in the handmade bathtub postcard show currently up at this museum.
